英语 and Philosophy

101年英格
A course emphasizing college-level, source-based writing (summary, 分析, 合成, 研究), with special attention to critical reading and 思考 skills. Students will draft, revise, and edit multiple thesis-driven essays. They will also study and practice argument and persuasion. (101年英格 or ENG 200 satisfy the composition requirement for graduation.) Three class hours. (SUNY-BC) Course offered Fall and Spring. Prerequisite: Most students will receive placements based on their academic record. This includes high school transcripts, college transcripts, and/or TASC/GED scores. You may see your placement in Degree Works. Those students with GPAs that can be verified on an official high school transcript will be placed as follows:

• 80 HS GPA or higher will be placed into 101年英格
• 71-79 HS GPA will be placed into TRS 099/ 101年英格

• A. A. Degree in Creative Writing: This program of study is designed for students who are interested in cultivating the strong writing skills that writing careers will require. The program includes courses conducive to transferring into a baccalaureate degree in 英语 and/or Creative Writing, while keeping pathways open for baccalaureate degrees that emphasize more professional writing as well. 相应的, the program is structured so students can (1) deepen their skills through scaffolded coursework and (2) broaden their experience with multiple genres and career pathways. The program culminates in a capstone course that familiarizes students with submission processes, transfer opportunities, and publishing/reading venues both in Rochester and around the country, preparing them for the next stage of their personal/professional lives as writers.

• A.A. Degree in 英语: The 英语 degree program at MCC provides students with a diverse array of educational experiences in the liberal arts and humanities.  Students in this program will complete courses in writing, 文学, and cultural studies in preparation for transfer and careers including but not limited to teaching, 编辑, 法律, 艺术, 市场营销, 业务, and communication.  The curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the analytical and critical reading, 思考, and writing skills necessary to understand the human experience from a variety of diverse perspectives.
